News Flash! Coffee is both good for you, and bad for you…
This topic has long been debated but a new study from the University of California San Francisco further muddies the water. The unequivocal outcome is that coffee is good for you. But like all things in life, moderation is key.
Take-aways from the randomized trial suggest that coffee drinkers are more active but suffer from insomnia. It’s estimated that for every cup coffeeholics consume, they log 600 more steps than non-coffee drinkers, but lose 18 minutes of sleep per each equivalent caffeinated indulgence.
The increase in physical activity among coffee drinkers apparently lowers their susceptibility to certain types of cancer and Type II Diabetes. But the lack of sleep has lasting effects and can make you crazy. Do like the pros and hit that snooze button a few more times and it’ll all balance out.
Here’s some more bad news. How fast you metabolize caffeine may increase your risk of arrhythmias. Apparently those who metabolize caffeine faster have special DNA which increases the prevalence of abnormal heart rhythms. Moderation is key here as the risk increases with consumption.
Based on my consumption already I’m on track to hit 5000 steps today and be wide-eyed well into the Late-Late Show .
How many steps are you gonna get today?
